How to Decorate a Thanksgiving Table

A Thanksgiving table is such an important part of your dinner.

It is the very first thing your guests will see and it’s where they will spend most of the evening.

This is why I plan the Thanksgiving table decor and after the menu is decided. Because the food we will spend days making truly deserves a beautiful display.

This year I chose a rustic decor look for Thanksgiving. Here is how to create it in your own home….

Skip the tablecloth.

Yes my friend. Resist the urge to pull out the tablecloth you use every year. A bare wood table (even with a few scratches) is perfect for rustic decor. Thanksgiving is all about rich tones. Your bare and beautiful table is a great base for the colors you will add next.

Layer the color.

Everything does not have to match. Layering the color means choosing dark candle sticks and placing them in a rose gold colored candle holder. Choosing light colored plates like this White Satin Dinnerware by Wolf Ceramics , that have a touch of color on the rim, while using colorful napkins to make a statement is beautiful.  Williams Sonoma has an Autumn Plymouth Turkey Collection that has rich browns and a touch of baby blue like in these napkins.  All you need is 1 or 2 items to make your table design stand out.

Layering allows you to choose warm, amber glasses. Why not change up the expected standard clear glass?! This can transform your table and give a beautiful glow before and during the candlelight hour.

Two statement pieces.

Select one small and one large statement piece for the table. A simple pumpkin made out of tree branches is a nice touch. Brown is a must for a rustic Thanksgiving table design. Now it’s time to go big. A beautiful floral arrangement is the “wow” piece that every table needs. It pulls your design together.

I chose a custom arrangement with blush, red, cream tones by Selva Flower Design. Investing in a statement piece is the gift that keeps on giving.  It will bring beauty and peace to your home long after Thanksgiving.
